Honor Winter's Lesson...... "See the pine trees and learn their lesson," a friend once said. "Pine trees are nature's reminder that growth continues even in the winter."  Winter is an important season in our lives. It is more than a time of coldness and snow.  It's a time of going within.  A time to rest from the work that's been done, a time to prepare for the lessons ahead.  Long for the sun on your shoulders, but let the frost and cold come. The ground has been left fallow in preparation for nourishing the seeds of new life.  Honor winter's lesson.  Despite the time of lifelessness and inactivity, this is still a season of growth.  Trust what's being worked out in your soul.  The snow will melt.  The sun will shine again.  The time will come to remove your heavy garb and return to the activity of life.  Cherish the winter.  Cherish it's quietness, the time to go within to rest and heal.  Cherish this time of preparation that must come before new life.  Cherish the hope that lies beneath the snow.

Some of the core concepts of yoga: Prana/Apana, Sthira/Sukha.  Focusing on steadiness and tension release through the knowledge of Pranayama and Asana, leading up to a calm relaxing meditation practice. Sthira being the anterior or weight bearing and compression load verses Sukha, the posterior, the tension loads. Try finding balance and space between the two. Create space, openess and ease in your life. The time is now, today!

Change is inevitable.  Nothing material lasts forever, yet there is a part of us that is eternal.  The popular yoga mantra, "Om Namah Shivaya", meaning "I bow to Shiva, the deity of change and destruction", reminds us that not only is change inevitable but it is necessary.  As we bow to change, we bow to the Unknown.

MOST OF THE CLASSES ARE AT ELLE'S STUDIO, and yoga club ...  I am excited to have Nicey return in season for her strong, fun, free flowing vinyasa classes. We are excited about the new club, our new space and look forward to creating great renewed energy with you!

We're practicing and hope you can continue to join us.. Prepare yourselves for more chanting, the sound is amazing and really very energizing!  We are practicing with a nice high celing, so the sound vibrates a little differently than our other studio.  .

Private lessons are now being offered at a rate of $100 per hour+, come in and deepen your practice.  Open to all levels, want  to deepen your knowledge of the basic foundation, just want a vinyasa class that is convienent for you.  We have lots of time during the week with a few spots open, so just email me and we can figure out a time that works best for you!

 A Post from my friend Ingrid DeHart, on her trip to India,...........Ghee..."I can't believe it is not butter"   Ghee is used widely throughout India and has a long history as an essential element of Indian cuisine. It is also considered a healing agent in Ayurveda Medicine (the traditional Indian medicine practiced in India for centuries). One of my yoga instructors here in India says little ghee will help loosen up tight hamstrings and recommends ghee for a host of ailments ranging from poor digestion to memory loss. The Ayurveda doctor John Doulliard uses ghee medicinally in his detox programs. Ghee's nutrition and health properties are touted as ideal for anyone from athletes to simple dieters. Ghee is often used in religious ceremonies. The French call ghee clarified butter; you have probably had it with lobster. 

So what exactly is this liquid gold and how does it differ from regular butter?

Ghee is butter that has been cleared of all the milk proteins and solids. Traditionally it is made from Buffalo milk and more recently from cow's milk. The butter is heated which causes it to separate into 3 parts. The milk fat solids sink to the bottom, the water rises to the top and what is left in the middle is the ghee, a clear golden oil. The ghee is free from lactose and casein which are the parts of milk most people are sensitive to.

It has such a delicious taste, you will say "I can't believe it is not butter" but it is a safe alternative for those who are lactose intolerant. You can spread it on your gluten free muffin....woo hoo.

Ghee is healthy to cook with at high temperatures because it will not burn during frying (this is known as a high smoking point), and possesses a more buttery flavor than vegetable oils. It oxidizes less readily than vegetable oil, is less likely to cause free-radical damage, and is ultimately more healthful at these higher temperatures.
